    Fit and finish of the item were perfect. I wear a large and Carhartt large is just right for me; sleeve and torso length are excellent. I did think that it would be a bit warmer by itself, but over a thermal long sleeve it's fine.

    As a fan of the brand who wears these products constantly. I wear them out and replace them. I can tell you the fit varies by the factory that produces them. You can see a factory by the markings on the products. Their Vietnam Factory fits different then their Mexico factory. I wish this was not the case.

    Great quality item. It is as described, loose fitting, heavy weight. I normally wear a size large and ordered a large because I will wear it over a shirt and sweater. If I would wear this over a shirt I could have ordered a medium.

    So far this hoodie demonstrates the quality I expect from Carhartt. I have not really tested out the Rain Defender aspect too much, but I am not delusional in my expectations. The hand warmer pockets are both nice and large, but I did find the smaller internal pocket to actually get in my way when I placed a tool or keys in there for quick access. A note on the color. I got Peat. I have seen Peat range from an off-brown to dark gray to a mossy green. On the website, this color appears more gray to me. In person it appears mostly on the mossy green side, although in some lighting it looks dark gray as well. I don't mind it. I actually like the mossy green look. But just beware of that if you're considering the Peat color.

    The zipper is nice. Don't have to worry about the zipper breaking. Nice snug cuffs for fit. Downside is feel of material isn't quit as soft as my old hoodie. The other down side is I would of liked blaze orange for an option for hunting.

    Love it. Great fit and feel of the material. The hood does not sag when wearing. I have had my last classic sweatshirt for over 6 years. It is a little beat up for around town but still very wearable for work. I also like the split pocket. It holds keys from falling out.

    My son loves it. He's 6'4" and slim. I purchased a Large Tall and it fits beautifully. Long enough in the sleeves and body. The color Peat is a very dark green. Almost black. It's warm but not hot. Cozy on a drizzly day. It hasn't been washed yet. I'd recommend this shirt.

    I was Leary of spending this much on a sweatshirt, but went for it. I haven’t for one second regretted this purchase. It’s comfortable, heavy and the rain hasn’t soaked through any time I’ve had it on in the rain. The fit is perfect I usually go up one size to layer when needed. All in all aside from some scrubs this is the first carhartt purchase and definitely won’t be the last.

    Love my Carhartt! It fits perfect and keeps me dry. Love the product but would have loved additional pockets on the inside, but 2 large front pockets can hold anything with ease. It’s Carhartt season boys. Carhartts are on.

    I love the durability and quality of this hoodie. The Rain Defender technology works great. As for fit, it runs large. I typically wear a Medium in most other clothing brands, but ordered a small and it fits just right. My only qualm with this product is the hood. It's too short! The hood is great around the sides but doesn't make it over my head completely. I have to be looking down in order to avoid getting my head wet when working in the rain. If the hood was just a bit longer and covered the rest of my head, this hoodie would be perfect.

    Decent sweatshirt, true heavyweight original loose fit. A bit too baggy on the mid section though. Hand warmer pockets shallow but my biggest disappointment with this sweatshirt is that the hood is too shallow. Barely covers my head, constantly have to pull it over, really disappointing. Rain defender technology works. Had a hole pop up on one corner of the hand warmer hem before the first wash. Was quite excited to get this Carhartt sweatshirt but turned out not to be a the level of satisfaction I expected from a Carhartt product.

    Rain Defender sweatshirts and jackets are my husband's ( and mine) all time favorites. They are heavier and warm and, as the name implies, a rain defender. I thought I had ordered a hoodless full zip (which is what he really likes), but, when it came, we realized it wasn't. But he loves the quality so much, he decided to keep it. Apparently, the hoodless ones are discontinued. Please bring them back!

    I work 14 hour shifts at night and in the early hours, things frequently become slow and I open the door so I can hear the phones and radios, stand on the balcony and watch the world go by. Those hours of the morning get cool. Too warm for a coat and jackets don't have hoods. This hoodie has filled my needs wonderfully. It's light weight and warmth combined make it ideal for my purposes. I haven't warn it in the rain or had it long enough to comment on it's durability. Time will tell. So far, I would highly recommend this for anyone that needs a light weight, comfortable jacket.

    This sweatshirt has some good weight to it and fits 'True to Size' in my opinion. With it being a heavyweight sweatshirt, it's very warm and feels like high quality materials. I've worn this in 35-40 degree weather a couple times for a few hours, and I've stayed nice and toasty the whole time.

    Bought this online and the size guide is inaccurate. The shoulder to waist line length isn't listed and this is very long, comes down to my thighs. I used the true fit guide and bought the suggested size. The hoodie itself is excellent and would last for years.

    Not much of a selection. Only loose fit in navy blue. Wish I could get a regular fit in black with a light blue lining inside of hood. The hood draw strings will disappear inside hood when washed. You should tie a knot on ends first.

    This is my second Rain Defender Paxton Heavyweight Hooded Zip-Front Sweatshirt. I lost weight so I’m ordering 2XL instead of my regular 4XL which I’m happy to say. This hoodie is my go to for fall and layering in the winter with my jean jacket. It’s A tougher material than the regular hoodie so wind doesn’t penetrate as easily plus it’s waterproof. My favorite hoodie ever.

    Nice quality, comfortable fit. My last three or four Carhartt sweatshirts have been thermal lined and I thought moving to a "heavy weight" would be a warmer garment. Not quite the situation, seems that the thermal are a bit warmer...especially in windy weather.

    This sweatshirt is nearly perfect. It combines warmth with water resistance, and is great for layering or on its own during the cooler months. My one complaint is that there's no loop with which to hang the sweatshirt up. A loop on the inside or better yet, a locker loop on the back would make this perfect. The cell phone pocket is unfortunately not suitable for my phone, but is useful for keeping keys separated. I've even occasionally put a Leatherman in that pocket instead.

    Nice sweatshirt, I'd consider it midweight more than heavyweight. I was actually surprised to see water bead off of it since it's a sweatshirt more than a jacket. It's warm enough for cold days and water resistant enough for light rain. I noticed larger drops do soak through somewhat quickly but much better than layering just to go between the truck and a job site. I would definitely recommend it but went 4 stars cause "rain defender" seems like it would handle larger drops better than it does. I also hope it shrinks a little shorter when washed.

    bought a large rain defender last year and I swim in it. its huge, I don't wear it. I'm waiting for someone I know to give it to that it might fit! I bought a medium last week and its way to snug to zip it up? i'm having a hard time with the return but I will call them today, I'm sure the return is operator error on my part .i will order a large rain defender today . I love my B11 pants there the longest wearing pants I've owned. they last 3 times longer than Levi 501's

    This is the greatest work hoodie around. The Rain Defender is much warmer than the lightweight hoodies. I only need to wear a t-shirt underneath of them in PA winters.     I work the graveyard shift, I wanted a hoodie because it gets pretty cold about 5 am. I searched various websites until I came across Carhartt. I liked the the RDP hoodie until I received it I open the package and took a look at the hoodie tried it on and I loved after trying it on.     This is a good and heavy hoodie that has held up well. For reference, I'm 5'11" 175 lbs and normally wear a size 42R sportcoat and a size L shirt and jacket. When I have tried on a size M in the past, they tend to too narrow in the shoulders and the sleeves are often too short. This hoodie runs big and I did purchase a size L. It is wide in the shoulders and the sleeves are quite long. I wear a size 16x35 dress shirt and these sleeves are slightly over my hands though not excessively. I am replacing this size L (purchased approx 5 years ago) with a size M for a better fit since I normally wear a t-shirt underneath.

    I love this rain defender hoodie and wear it in the North Idaho winters with just a heavy tee shirt most of the time. Only problem I have is after just 2 years of lite use, the wrist cuffs are coming apart. I will buy a new one but wish it would have lasted longer.

    I will say the fit of the bottom of the jacket really runs small and tight and the jacket runs long down over your bottom.. It also said its heavy wt. but it's not, it's more of a thin light material jacket, haven't really been out in a heavy rain to try out the rain resistant part. I like the color is good and the second pocket is a great fit for my cell phone and it does not fall out while I'm bending down and up working. The jacket seems to be sturdy so far material is holding up good.

    Definitely a loose fit for wearing over other bulky clothes. If you want to wear it under a jacket don't get the loose fit. Not quite as heavy thermal as I was expecting from Carhartt. I wear it everyday in wind or rain.

    The sizes run way too big. I’m 5’11”and the medium hoodie goes down to my knees. It’s more of a hoodie dress really...I washed and dried it a couple times...it’s almost a normal size now.

    Sweatshirt is good looking, well made and very comfortable but the hood is on the small side. When I have the hood up with full zip it barely covers my head. Specifically, it doesn't come far enough down in the front while remaining tight on the rear-crown of my melon. I do have a relatively small head too (7.25" fitted hat). Odd for something that is advertised to perform in the rain, which by the way it does sans the tiny hood. Love the waistband and cuff elastic as it is tight enough while allowing room for movement without riding up, and not sloppy with memory loss like the Rutland (Rutland is the warmer heavyweight though and better in the wind). Also be prepared to snag your fingers on the interior security pocket every time you try to put your hands in the main pockets. Wish this came in more colors. Very good product just be sure you wear a hat in the rain and cut the security pocket out (not too secure anyway).

    Great, warm, heavy, comfortable, durable, and rain repellent hoodie. It is far superior to any other brand hoodie I've had and well above Carhartt's midweight hoodie. At times it's almost too hot, but that's when the zipper comes in handy. You can cool off without totally removing it. I sized down 1 size from my normal non Carhartt size of large, to a medium.

    The sweatshirt is great. I was able to order a size I couldn't find in the store - 2XL Tall. The shipping experience was horrible. Not only did it take 2 weeks to receive, but I also received two false tracking numbers that didn't exist according to the shipping company and was was notified on mtiple occasions that my product had shipped. I was provided various estimated arrival dates, but none were within a week of the actual delivery.

    I love these. I bought one a few years ago and it’s still in fine shape but I really like to way they feel brand new so I picked up three more so I can rotate them and keep them even longer. In the winter this is all I wear along with a thinsulate long sleeve t.

    The style & appearance of the sweatshirt were nice. However, I wouldn't classify this as a heavyweight sweatshirt. It was more of a standard weight. This particular sweatshirt would not keep anyone working out side in weather colder that 45 degrees warm.

    Easy to put on and off without having to pull over head but needs better zippers . Comfortable to wear and repels water . On first washing zipper broke off in a normal washing machine and won't go back on . Wish it had more and better pockets that had closures on them .

    I bought this coat several years ago when it was item n umber 100415. It had the exact same description and photos and yet when it arrived, it was completely different and cheap! The inside pocket is no longer there, the warm woolly lining is gone, replaced with what feels like cheap fake fleece that feels more like packing foam. The zipper pull is obviously smaller. The whole coat doesn't feel like Carhartt to me, it feels like a cheap fake version of a Carhartt coat.

    I had lost my previous hoodie that I had owned for a few years. Then I lost misplaced it at a restaurant and when I went back to retrieve it, it was no longer there. I went online to Carhartt and found one that seemed suitable. My prior one was so durable and comfortable I wanted another like it. My last one was grey but this time I opted for blue. My hoodie is my go to for the cold, rain sometimes even for just a cloudy day. The quality just can't be beat.

    I love the Paxton full-zip hooded sweatshirt. It's built with high quality, looks great, feels great, very warm. I give it my top recommendation. The Paxton's hood is much better than the oddly small hood of the Rutland, so if you don't require thermal lining, consider the Paxton for its spacious, normal-size hood.

    Based on the information on the Carhartt web sight, Xtra large should fit. Anticipating the arrival of this sweatshirt, as my XL champion is about done. put it on, and its like wearing a moo moo. Cut the sleeves off, and make a hooded poncho. Could pitch this thing and eat my lunch under it. This thing is so big, it could cover 1/10 of Chuck Norris’s awesomeness.

    My son is very pleased with his Rain Defender Paxton Heavyweight Hooded Zip-front sweat shirt. He appreciates that it is rain proof to a certain extent. He really appreciates the zip up front. He has a pull over Carhart, but he does not like pull over. As far as heavy weight, I feel that the zip up is light weight not heavy weight. His pull over is heavy weight.

    Wanted to leave a review on this jacket as I spent a good deal of time reading reviews before I purchased it. Here are the things I was worried about based on other reviews: 1) Zipper - The zipper works like any other zipper I have ever used. I have no issues zipping up and down so no complaints there. 2) Size - It seemed like the consensus of reviews stated that these run large. I took their advice and ordered a medium when I usually wear a large. The jacket fits perfectly. 3) Hood - Some reviewers had complaints about the hood size. It seems like a normal sized hood to me. No complaints. I haven't wore this out in the rain yet to comment on its ability to defend against rain. Overall, this jacket seems heavy duty (as it should as it is stated as "heavy" in the description); however, so far I don't get too hot in it which is perfect for fall and heavy enough to replace my coat in the winter. The jacket seems extremely durable so it *should* last a long time. This is my first Carhartt purchase and I'm happy with it so far.

    Yes, I can say I got what I paid for. I purchased the Black Heavyweight Defender and I am honestly glad I chose this brand. I did check many brands and reviews. Also materials the hoodie was made of. This is very well made, warm and fits very well,and looks good. I can wear it under my coat and it's not bulky. I definitely would recommend this Rain Defender.????

    Water beads up on it like a fresh coat of wax on the truck. I like that the hood is not so large that it hinders peripheral vision. I like it!

    I am a female and bought a size small because Carhart does not make a sweatshirt this heavy for women. I usually buy a women's small or medium and this sweatshirt feels oversized. I like that the sleeves are long and the sweatshirt falls below my butt and keeps me warm. I would recommend this to women seeking function over style.

    This sweatshirt was billed as the replacement for the older style J149 hoodie, In the specs it says it is heavier weight, now way, its much lighter, not near as warm and no inner pockets, it ids definitely a down grade from thr previous style.

    This is the best daily jacket I've ever had. Thick, doesn't soak water, and keeps me warm. The jack is also very comfortable!

    I bought my Carhartt hoody for those times when I'm scouting for turkey in the spring. These scouting trips are usually wet and always abusive on my outerwear. Pre-Carhartt, I'd wear just any hoody, but they just didn't stand up to the abuse in the field and certainly not the rain. The nice thing is that I not only upgraded in performance, but also in comfort.

    I have this jacket in 3 colors green black and gray love love love this jacket it is very warm can wear other layers under it just a great wearing hooded jacket.

    My husband is an electrician and is working inside and outside in cold weather in NYS. This jacket allows him to be versatile, not too heavy, but is warm and comfortable, allowing freedom of movement. This is his second one and he still loves it.

    I have owned a black and grey one and neither hold their colour. Totally faded to a pinky gray on the shoulders and arms within the first year. Neither of them where ready to dispose of but ended up backyard wear only. What a shame because they are really comfortable.

    These seem to run larger than normal sweatshirts, so if u get one go slightly smaller. Other wise i love it, easy on easy off, confortable

    Good so far. Seems quite large. I’m 6’6” and 295. The largest my local store had was a 2x and it was snug and short. Ordered a 3x tall and it is huge!! Wish I could find an in between but it’ll work. The rain defender coating works well. I live where it rains about 85” a year. Also I’ve machine washed it 3 times so far with no effect on the water repellent so that’s a plus too.

    Everyone needs one of these jackets.

    I'm 6"1 160lbs and usually wear a X Large in jackets and sweatshirts (long arms and big shoulders). I purchased a large and it fits perfectly. It was a little stiff when received but one wash softened it up with very little shrinkage if any. Wore it on a trip to Syracuse NY in mid December and it was the perfect layering piece under a mid weight jacket, kept me warm and toasty.

    This is a solid weight hoodie. I bought myself one, and after a month, sent one to a friend, a week later, I bought another for myself. My one complaint is the microfiber shedding. It happened to each one. Not worth a demerit, but a point worth mentioning
