Boot Barn What's a moment that made you feel like, I've made it?

Riley Green An I made it, moment for me was selling out a venue called Iron City in Birmingham, Alabama. I think it held like 1,300 people, which was a lot for me at the time. I was playing in small clubs and honky-tonks, so that was a moment where I knew things were really working for me. People were listening to my music.

Boot Barn What's one thing you always do before stepping on stage?

Riley Green Before getting on stage, I usually fix a drink. Me and the band guys, we've been playing together for a long time, so we have a lot of rituals, but I think everybody getting the drinks is the first thing we’ve got to do.

Boot Barn What was the first album you ever bought?

Riley Green First album I ever bought was probably Alan Jackson, Drive. Still one of my favorite albums.

Boot Barn If you could trade lives with any other country artist for one day, who would it be?

Riley Green I would have to go with Willie Nelson. I feel like he's had one of the most interesting lives of anybody in country music.

Boot Barn If you could collaborate with any artist dead or alive, who would it be?

Riley Green I would say Merle Haggard. He was my granddaddy's favorite and a huge influence on me as a songwriter early on.

Boot Barn How do you incorporate your country roots into your music?

Riley Green I don't really know any other way to write songs than to just write about what I know. And growing up here and experiencing these things with my family and the outdoors has always been a huge part of my life.

Boot Barn The country lifestyle is very authentic to you. How would you describe your Alabama lifestyle?

Riley Green I would say the lifestyle and growing up in Alabama is very traditional. There’s a lot of appreciation for how people used to do things and the way my granddaddies taught me how to do things, and those values, always come out in my song lyrics.

Boot Barn You're known by all as Riley Duckman. What does being a hunter and outdoorsman mean to you?

Riley Green Well, I grew up hunting and it's something that I experienced with my dad and my granddaddies and was always something that was special to me. So, I think now I appreciate it a lot more because it's my escape from the crazy reality of tour and being a country music singer. So, I love that I can go and get in the woods and really disconnect like that.

Boot Barn What's one thing you won't go hunting without?

Riley Green I would say my Hoyt bow.

Boot Barn If you could hunt anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Riley Green As crazy as it may seem, I love hunting on my farm here in Alabama. It's my chance to be at home and hunt with my old hunting buddies. I grew up spending time in these woods as a kid, so I feel like I know them as well as anywhere.

Boot Barn What's a sound from nature you wish you could bottle into a song?

Riley Green Turkey gobbling is probably my favorite sound in the woods and certainly the one that gets me fired up. So, if I could put that in a song, I think that would be awesome.
