I really went out on a limb when I chose as a Christmas gift, but was hopeful that our Grandson would like it as much as I did, and I was RIGHT! He LOVED it! He told us that he had wished that he had it when elk hunting in Colorado in October, as he FROZE, and was wet from the rain/snow, but VOWED to wear it hunting next year! What was even better was the fact that you had size XXSmall, which is PERFECT for our "in between" size Grandson, that makes it tough to find, but when looking for something that costs a bit more than you normally spend, it HAS TO FIT! and this did!

I bought this recently to wear at SASS cowboy shoots for its great look but mainly for protection from the elements. I haven't had a chance to wear it at a shoot yet but I know it's going to be awesome.

I had an Outback oilskin duster with a fleece liner years ago and it was warm and weatherproof. After 20 years, it was time for a new one. I have had it a month and am happy to report it is as warm, comfortable, wind-proof, and water-proof as my old one. For foul weather, it can't be beat.

Things that are great about it

Very pleased with this coat, which has a good weighty strong oiled cotton outer and a warm lining . . doesn't need the extra liner. It does a great job of keeping me dry and warm.

I just recently purchased this Long Oilskin Duster. This is my second one. My first Duster that I bought was around 1982 and I still do have it but it has lost some of its rain protection. I bought this 3 weeks ago and I normally take an extra large but after reading the reviews decided to buy the large!! It fits nicely so the sizes run larger than normal!! It is great in the rain but I I am 5ft 8in tall and the bottom of the coat is 6 inches off the ground with my boots on!! They should have a size and add short medium or tall!! I also bought the hat for this and it's great!!

Haven't tried it in any real bad weather, but I have no doubt it would stand up to anything you could throw at it! The look is great, and it is very well made. Really a lot of coat for your bucks!

This is my second time to purchase this jacket. I purchased it for my son several years ago for Christmas and it has been instrumental working in Northern California with the rainy weather herding sheep, but also in Nevada and Idaho with his job with cattle. He had a fire in the fall of 2024 and lost everything and really missed having his jacket, I was so happy to find that you still carried it. A mom's heart is warm when she receives a text from the hills during a down fall of rain this winter thanking her so much for replacing this important part of his job apparel. So my review is durable, long lasting and a must have for any job out on the range with a herd of animals and a moms heart wanting her son to stay warm and dry.

My wife bought me a duster for my birthday, I bought her one for hers. Wish it would rain. Remember, don't store an oiled duster in a closet full of other clothes until you put it in a dedicated garment bag or slip a large trash bag (clean) over it first!

I received it in a small box, so I was skeptical of how this was going to look coming from such a small box.. when I opened it up, it was folded very neatly and inside a plastic bag. After getting it completely opened and tried on, found out it swallowed me, it was huge. I am female, ordered a large thinking it would fit good over winter sweaters, heavier shirts.. It was even too big for that, my fiance' tried it on, he normally wears a 2XL tall in shirts.. this fit him perfectly, he loved it, didn't like the black, he would have ordered brown, but he was a little worried about wearing it over heavier shirts in the winter, otherwise he could snap it closed over a thin shirt. But we do know he would wear a XL great! I am returning the black one and maybe get a brown XL for him and a medium for me. I am 5'8" and normally wear a L in a mans shirt.. So I hope this helps those wondering about the sizing, as I couldn't really see any info on that when I was looking at the reviews for myself. Other than the sizing, it is a beautiful coat, much softer than I thought it would be. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, just make sure you are sure about the size you order.

Shepler's did a great job. They shipped it quickly, all the way to Korea, and the jacket exceeds all expectations. It really looks great, especially with my Indiana Jones fedora. I highly recommend this jacket and Shepler's.

I use it everytime almost to sleep!

I wore this to work during a recent cold spell with near zero wind chills. The flaps were great at keeping the wind off my legs. One minor inconvenience, the light cotton liner is not sewed along the bottom causing it to hang up in the back requiring some contortionist like moves to free it. I also bought the shorter version of the same coat. The liner in it is sewn down with a nice Outback Trading label, looks nice works nice. A phone rep said the long coat was as it was to avoid bunching up. Seems like it does that worse now. If you've got the room to do a sweeping motion as you put it on, it works better. Still a great coat, but the hem issue cost one star. Oh, seems to be a bit of a size difference between the long and short version. I'm 6'1" 180; large fits great in the long coat, it's a bit sloppy in the shorter one.

Would buy again. Got a good 20$ knocked off the price well worth the buy. It's kinda heavy which is a good thing for me. Only thing I wish it had was a hood included, I see it has a spot to attach one by looks of it. It has one inside zip pocket and two button up pockets on the outside. It definitely keeps you warm. So wear a lighter layer under it cause it cooks you up quick.

I bought this to use as an overcoat for cooler weather trail riding because the design is very rider friendly. I was not disappointed, the coat is very nice and looks to be high quality. I haven't used it enough to speak to long term durability, but in looking at the other reviews I have high expectations. And it was a very good price as well.

I am a stable hand at a college equine center. I work outside in ALL weather conditions. I have been needing a coat that will keep me dry and warm when it is snowing or raining. I bought this coat Dec. 27th, 2010. The 3rd time I wore it one of the snaps on the front pocket fell off when I unsnaped it, I had never even used or unsnaped the pockets before that. By the 6th time I wore it the seam on the front flap had riped. The lining in the sleeves tends to stick out allowing them to get wet. This coat is not the slightest bit warm and actually gets quite cold, the colder it is out side the colder the coat gets and you will be cold if you do not have lots of layers or a good fleece on under it. I talked to someone who told me they had one once and had the liner for it and the liner didn't really help keep you any warmer (so I'm glad I didn't waste money on that to). The only good thing about this coat is that it does keep me dry for the most part, though I will have to re-waterproof it before next winter - if it hold together that long. If you need a good coat save yourself the hassel Don't Buy This, Go buy a Columbia or a Carhart you'll be much better off.

This is of the highest quality. Was exactly what I had been looking for. A lot of thought went into the making, as there are adjusters here and there of a perfect fit.

I bought one of these in Gatlinburg at a leather shop for approx $185. I wore it all week end when the temps never got over freezing. Extremely warm, comfortable jacket that not only looks good, but is functional and does the job. It is well made and durable as well. I was so impressed I bought two more from Shepler's at a considerably lower price to give to both of my sons for Christmas!

I'm five foot six slim built. The 42 or medium is a little bit big but fits good. I use it in the Texas winter as a Petroleum tanker driver. It keeps me dry and warm in the harsh rain. I wear it over my work clothes. It moves with me. It breathes. I'm very satisfied. Get one. You won't be sorry.

Kept rain and snow a bay while clearing snow from driveway

This will get alot more use when I am horseback riding this fall during our Oregon rains and have been on a hot/dusty cattle drive already using it. This duster feels indestructable, hoses off well when it gets dusty/dirty, and is cut generously. (Makes it easy to get in and out of the saddle.)

I'm a big fan of staying dry. This oilskin duster covers well below my knees (I'm 5' 8") and I frequently get compliments on it's looks... nice, but the bottom line is I'm staying dry, dry, dry!

I bought this as a gift. It was not exactly as described. It did not contain the "Security inside pockets" that are listed in the description. It must be a defect? Most long coats have inside pockets.

Our 40 something son lives in a community in New England and does not own a car. He walks to the Post Office, Bank, Grocery Shopping and all. If it rains or snows and even if it's just cold, his other outerwear couldn't hold up to his needs. He is tall and wears a backpack when he shops. He mostly liked the functionality; the snaps, the pockets (inside as well), the adjustable collar, the cape helps protect his backpack from the rain, and he laughed when he realized the leg snapper capability would work in deep snow rather than trying to walk through with a long coat. He was so impressed, we found him a matching hood with a visor. He was actually so happy that he was glad it rained that day so he could try his new rain gear It works. And better yet, he used to wear a quilted jacket under his coat just to keep warm. He's quite certain that a simple hooded sweatshirt would suffice if it got really cold out. This is a perfect coat for these upper New York winter storms. It keeps me perfectly dry and warm. The fit is perfect. I have had many comments on how great the coat looks. I'm extremely impressed with my Outback duster i purchased from Sheplers except for one thing.....the leg straps dont even come close to fitting. I grabbed a 2XL because of my shoulder width but my legs aren't chubby or anything. Still bugging me. The duster is amazing though, and it came so incredibly quick even though i'm in another country. That was impressive.

This oilskin duster looks great and seems to be well constructed (time will tell). The sizes seem to run a little small, so you may want to order a size larger.

This Duster makes a great rain coat, although it is a little bulky to wear while driving my car it doesn't make it impossible.
