This is the best boot/leather care product readily available on the market. I am hard on my boots. They get exposed to water dirt, dust, mud, manure, sparks, slag, you name it. This stuff keeps the leather in peak condition.
As a bonus, it smells incredible. It also (when applied using your hands), leaves your hands softer than any lotion or balm.

My sons leather hiking boots felt like sandpaper from wearing them in the snow, so I helped him apply Obenauf's Heavy Duty. The container is plastic, this made it handy for softening it in the microwave making it easier to apply. Now the leather is soft and water proofed!

very protective on dark leather

This stuff is very protective of leather and last a long time compared to other products. It can smooth over boots that are becoming ruff and seems to help lessen the crease that forms at the base of the toes.
It is heavy duty though and will darken the leather and stitching, and will not hold polish. So this isn't the stuff to put on dress shoes especially if you have light colored leather, stitching or sections of leather that deliberately contrast or something you need to put a shine on. But for work boots and working leather it is wonderful.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with LP, but decided I’d order some and find out. First thing I discovered is LP does indeed darken leather substantially, perhaps permanently. In my case, I put it on both a lighter pair of old boots and a new pair of dark boots, and both were darkened and have stayed darkened several weeks following application. I expected this and wasn’t worried about it, but be warned. Second, LP is very thick and doesn’t do well being applied with any other tool than your bare hands. I found giving the product a vigorous rub with my fingers in the jar worked well to soften it, and I then worked a section at a time massaging it into my boots. Lastly, LP does seem to shine up some with the horsehair brush, but it’s definitely a more matte finish. I wouldn’t throw this on high shine leathers and expect to be able to buff it back to the glassy surface it was originally. Overall, having now watched how two pairs of boots, one old and one new, have been following an LP treatment, I’d say this stuff is worth every penny. My old pair is much more vibrant, and the LP seems to have reduced some of the wear indications. On both pairs, the LP has done a great job with increasing the water resistance and has helped keep contaminants from settling into the leather’s pores, and I can quickly brush my boots clean.

Great protectant, easy and clean to apply. Doesn’t leave excess residue or an unpleasant smell. But I would definitely recommend putting an oil on before applying this finish as it doesn’t provide enough moisture on its own.
