    my favorite jeans

    I'm short ... 5'3" and have a hard time finding pants/slacks/jeans that fit right. Most "mens" are too big and most "boys" are too small. For the past 30 years or so I've bought "shrink to fit" 501 jeans and they have ALWAYS been perfect. In fact, after this order, which I'm reviewing, I ordered two more pair, only in black!

    Sizes 38 and up more like classic STF fit from 6-10 years ago - I guess they switched over 36 and under to a new style, but I have a lot of problems with it. Sizing up from 36 to 38 you get: significantly higher rise, one more button, 2 more belt loops, deeper pockets, much better top block and crotch flexibility due to the rise. It's more of a Western-style fit. If you're on the fence go 38 and shrink with the hottest water you can fill your tub with. I am a life longer lover of STFs and currently fading and shrinking a pair I bought at the end of summer. Crisp fades are coming through nicely and the material has thickened up nicely where it is not stretching. Don't believe the rumors - these are still nice jeans. Go to a good outlet that carries STFs and find yourself the highest size where you would just feel uncomfortable wearing with a belt. The fit you are looking for is just barely clinging to your natural waist and would fall down readily without a belt. Length: longer than you think but not too long. Soak immediately with hot water, no agitation - wear dry. Repeat soak at 4-6 months and again at 8-12 months, transitioning to hang dry as you go on. Wear the heck out of them. You're going to love your new forever-jeans - I promise. If you follow these steps after the second soak they should be getting comfortable enough to sleep in.

    I have been wearing men's Levis 501 Shrink-to-Fit jeans for at least 30 years - you can essentially say that I live in them. Unfortunately, my last two orders have not lived up to my expectations. Here is a concise list of my disappointments with the jeans: - The material is thinner; therefore, these jeans are not as stiff as the originals. - The color is not as intense or as dark blue as the originals. - After washing, the jeans develop strange white lines running up and down the legs. (I have one pair with at least 10 such lines) - The jeans have permanent creases on the legs that will not wash out and do not correspond to the front or sides of the leg. - After washing some pairs twist causing the seams to spiral around the leg. - The button holes are poorly made and so after a few washings, the buttons will no longer stay closed. - Some pants have numerous flaws in the fabric - of pulled threads and knotted threads. - The trouser hems are shorter than the old versions and so the cuffs roll. - The inside seams have only 1 line of stitching instead of the classic 2 lines. I though that the batch that I purchased was a one-off bad batch, and so I never bothered to return them. But now I am eager to purchase new pairs; so I checked the reviews. It seems that other people have had the same issues that I have had. (I guess if you have not been a long time wearing of these classics - you would never know.) But unfortunately, they are no longer the quality-made jeans that I have known for so long.

    I love these rigid jeans. I soaked them in the bathtub in hot water then let them dry on my body. The fit is amazing. Buy them a little loose in the waist and longer in length as they will shrink when soaked and dried. Too bad they are no longer made in the USA. I'd gladly pay more for American made.

    The material is thin and not what I am used to. I have bought and worn 501's for 45 years and every few years it got a little worse but this year takes the cake. The material is way to thin, the hem was sewn to narrow and it now curls, The overall stitching is horrible. It's time to move on to another brand. It's a shame that such a great product is no longer even good let alone great.

    The starter raw denim

    A fun way to get into raw denim. The pre-soak and then nearly daily wear has been the most fun I've had with clothes, and started me down the path of raw denim. It took a couple tries to get the sizing just right, I ended up sizing up only in length, and using my waist size. They'll stretch enough so any shrinkage in the waist will be cancelled out. For half to a quarter the price of other starter raw denim pairs, I don't know how you could go wrong! Do keep in mind that the ankle of these are a little big, for those of you guys used to 511's. For the price, can't go wrong, though.

    you made the pockets shorter. I don't like that. The last batch I bought have a problem with the lowest button buttoning. Other than that I still will wear them as I have for the last 55 years.

    These are still great jeans - the only ones my fiance will wear. You just have to remember to add two inches to the waist size and the length so they will shrink down to the size you want.

I was not a fan of the button fly, the lack of stretchy material and the flexibility of the jeans. They feel solid and a fairly durable material, however I cannot get past the terrible fit of them. The grey pair that I ordered was a pretty color, that was the only thing they had going for them.

    Aside from the drop to 9 lb Cotton from 12 lb (two decades ago?) - Levi's 501 Original Shrink-to-fit are my Go-To. Rare is the day I'm wearing something else. If you use the sizing rules - you're golden.

    I have been wearing Levis since probably before high school that would be the 60's, I am 73. I have always purchased 501's, in the day they only came one way: they didn't fit until you washed them. I still like my Levis. There are fewer belt loops, maybe the fabric is a little thinner, I can't really tell. The pockets are a little less deep. What is most noticeable to me is the watch pocket. That little pocket on the right, I generally have a small folding knife in that pocket... which just keeps getting smaller... so I can't use it for much... but I like the fit which hasn't change much over the years. Too bad Levis is trying to save money by using less fabric, which couldn't be much. Still like them... obviously as I bought another pair.

    These are without a doubt the best jeans going. My only complaint is they need to come in 40" inseam in the smaller sizes. Also wish they were made in USA. I would pay a bit more if they were, but not as much as the made in USA ones they have on the web.

    I bought these a few weeks back. Levi’s has switched there STF unsaf. Fabric to something similar to cone denim, but it’s much flatter and has more of a green cast. Which I usually don’t mind but I’ve become used to their deep synthetic indigo stuff. Also the outside hem stitching is blue instead of the usual contrast yellow which is a huge bummer since it make the jeans with cuffs look really weird. The seat is a lot tighter than the older fabric, maybe it will stretch out in time? Idk still haven’t given this new fabric a proper wear, but not as excited about the shade of indigo, it is a lot lighter and not as deep. Maybe they will wear nicely though similar to their cone options on their Crafted and VC line? I would size up 2 instead of 1 if you have a butt and thicker thighs

    My husband loves the 501 shrink to fit. We normally buy the indigo pair, but I chose the black this time. After a few washes, the jeans soften up and take on his shape. The color fades over time, but we actually like the different stages. A solid, long lasting jean.

    These are the first standard 501 STFs I've bought in a few years and they're different from before (unsurprisingly, since the style has continually undergone tweaks and revisions). It seems they're now exactly like the standard fit rinsed 501s in terms of cut and details, and I'm fine with that, I like this iteration; however, I still prefer these greatly over the rinsed / washed jeans. Love the look and feel of the raw denim and the STFs do always end up fitting much better than the others if you go through the process right. On the downside, they exhibit some of the same manufacturing inconsistencies that I've found on all 501s I've ever owned, including the super-expensive Vintage ones (those are actually very wonky, will not buy again). But at this price it's well within acceptable tolerances and I do like these jeans a lot, they look and feel great. And to me, the 501 is the anti-trendy jean-- instead, they are timelessly stylish. This is the one and only classic jean and it's as simple as that. I just wish Levi’s would always have a 100% USA-made model available, I’d buy those exclusively if I could. I have a pair from a few years ago, and in addition to being much more socially and environmentally responsible they blow all the other ones out of the water on fit, finish, and appearance (including the much more expensive imported “luxury” vintage ones).

    This review is for 501 STF rigid raw denim blue jeans. The only model of Levi’s I ever buy. It has been well over a decade since I bought 501’s because of a daily office job but I got an itch to buy a couple pair. 501’s were all I wore from the time I was a kid until my mid twenties so I’ve got about 20 years experience wearing USA made Levi’s. I went ahead and ordered the size I used to buy every year to STF. They arrived 3 days later and I looked them over really well. Aside from the lack of lines on the inside seams, they looked, felt, and fit just like I remembered them. Maybe I lucked out but the Rigid indigo denim is thick and feels really tough. The stitching is great and nothing about them looks cheaply made. I put the jeans through my old STF ritual and the fit is perfect. I’m hard on my clothes so we’ll see how they hold up but I have to say, so far I’m very pleased and I only wish they were still made here in the USA at this price.

    I've been wearing Levi jeans my entire life and I have to say I'm blown away at the quality of jeans. They're HORRIBLE. Every pair was trashed after washing. The colors melded into bizarre patterns and for some reason after drying they were wrinkled beyond recognition and creased in several areas. When I say creased I'm not talking about the factory fold, it's like they some how ironed themselves in random areas and then the color bled through that area. I've been wearing 501 forever and this is mind numbing...Yes I've requested a refund but what is going on? How is something like this even possible with a pair of 501s? You're supposed to be able to wash, dry and put on "like a pair of jeans." Bottom line? I couldn't wear them.

    The last time I bought 501 Shrink-to-fit Levis was in 1974. Only 3 differences: bound, not selvidge edgs on the outseams; Bar-tack stitching @ tops of back pockets is done differently; and these jeans are manufactured in Mexico, not the USA. However they are solidly built and true to size.. Still the absolute best jeans out there.

    hello i use to be a faithfull levi jean wearer, but i slowly stop buying them cause they stoped coming out with the 501 shrink to fit jeans with different colorways which i liked alot red yellow green dark blue light blue u name the color they had in the ealry 2009-2017 they are just been sticking to the plain jane blue jeans. i have had over 20 pair of these jeans but stoped cause of the small selection to choose from the 501 shrink to fit jeans..

    I have purchased the same pair of jeans since I was 18 and am now 53 . A pair usually lasts about 2 -3 years. It is usually my only pair of jeans with the exception of my "nice" jeans for Friday night out. I wash and slightly dry them, then put them on damp and stretch out until they are dry. The next day they are a perfect fit. I won't wash them again for 6 months and thereafter about every 6 months. My body has changed over 30 years, certainly a little rounder. I went from ordering 29 waist, 30 length, to 36/30. I just put on a new pair that I ordered 2 years ago. Popped them in the wash and presto! I replaced my worn out pair instantly. The crouch eventually wears out and them become yard pants. If you can pinpoint your size, you are set for life.

    This is it... if you truly want a genuine Levi's. Buy one size bigger or same size waist and 2 inches over your inseam. Soak in hot water for 1 hours and air dry it for one day. You will be very satisfied.

Still some good in these new style 501's. But they are just not the same. Been wearing 501,s for over 50 years. Now have started to wear some wranglers.

    i have been wearing original shrink to fit 31x30 for many many years , and they always shrink yo fit perfectly, however i purchased 6 pairs from you recently and now the lengh runs about 2 inches too long, and the waist about an inch too big! what happened to your sizing ??? cant even wear them !

    This was my second order of 501 Original Shrink-to-Fit Levis. Not sure if the material is quite as heavy as they were back in the 1950's and 60's but I am pleased. Maybe I'm just getting old and senile with the attitude that "nothing is as good as the old days" because, honestly, I don't remember. However, I am pleased with both my orders and will continue to order when on sale.

    I have worn Levi 501 jeans as my exclusive jean pant. Talk about brand loyalty I’m the poster boy for your product. With the demise of brick & mortar stores online is now where your product can be procured by me. Although the trademark leather clearly said 32W & 36L I was nervous about getting the right size. I have a pair of red 501’s that say 32W & 36L but are clearly a full two inches longer. When my new jeans arrived I tore open the packet to expose my pants in all their majesty. When I held them up I thought oh oh going to have to have them hemmed because there is no way way washing & drying is going to get them to shrink and fit. Oh contour! Upon washing & drying them they came to fit like a glove, contouring to all my contours! Thank you Levi Strauss for your original brilliant designs and your heirs for staying true to your original design. Don’t get me started on price because I don’t want to see you jack your prices even though they would still be worth it! I LOVE my LEVI 501’s

    I’ve worn shrink-to-fit button fly Levis since the late 70’s. Sure they’ve changed a little over the years but one thing I’ve learned is they still outlast those cheap jeans from those stores that sell cheap junk. Yes, you need to know how much they shrink to get that perfect fit. Sorry, I have to wash mine. They still fit great, if your size is available. Things change, and so did I. I’m now in between waste sizes and nothing in between exists. My older pair is too tight while my newest, the next size up, are too large. Doh! That’s my fault, not Levi’s. That is the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars, no 37” waist, but I digress. Still have the classic straight leg look, which is my favorite. Rise is medium, not too high like some of the others, so they ride above my hip bones and not at my waist. After a couple of washings, they are down right comfy.

    I used the instructions from Levi's blog and shrunk these in the tub. I love the way the way these 501's fit and look. A lot of people complain in the reviews about these but I feel like you just need to be honest with yourself about your waist size when buying. I'm very excited to see how these fade, they're everything I've been looking for in a pair of jeans.

    I've been buying Levi 501 Shrink to fit for 30+ years, my first pair came from Shepler's way back in the 70's.. Not the same 501's, not even close. Thin, limp, when you first get em, not thick and stiff line the old ones. I even checked the tags to make sure they were the same 'model'. Not Shepler's fault, Levi has out sourced it's manufacturing out of the country, has forgotten quality control (last set one had a 1" shorter inseam on one leg)..and what the fabric is all I can say is I'm going to try and find REAL cotton denim jeans, or try to get back down to my 90's size so I can wear the 20 year old one's again.

    I have been wearing 501 STF's for about 30 years. The latest generation is much thinner, and the sizing is way off. The old method of adding up a size in Waist and 2 sizes in length, I'm not getting the shrinking that I expected. I haven't changed size since I was 17, so it sure isn't that. If you are looking to get into some selvedge denim, keep looking. These are just navy blue work pants for me, hoping to hold on to my old Levi's 501's.

    Very disappointed in these Levi jeans, I have bought several pair of Wrangler jeans from Sheplers all fit well, these jeans shrunk to much when washed in "cold" water, they now are to small. I do not recomend puchasing these jeans

    I have worn Levi STF jeans for many years. They look good and fit well. I prefer the blue but wear the black sometimes. I try to refresh them every year so that I always have a new pair for the holidays. I don’t know why anybody would buy $300 selvage jeans when Levi’s are reliable and consistent at a good price. I buy them to fit, wear and wash and they break in. I wear size 36 in khakis and 34 in Levi STF. Buy the waist to fit. Add 2” to your inseam. Works a treat.

    The 501 Shrink To Fix are the only pair of Levis,s I've ever been 100% Happy with. Even as a kid they always felt "special" when I wore them to school, even if I had to roll the cuffs up or under. It was definitely the trend then, and still is.

    I've been wearing 501's for almost 20 yrs. Because I really like there're made to fit each person's body type. I like the ridged STF dark denim, These fit well & looks great on me too. I launder these (warm) wash and tumble dry (low/delicate). Nice results.

    I used to wear Wranglers until I needed to borrow a pair of pants when I was 16. I've been buying Levi's shrink to fit, button fly pants for 46 years, since then. I also liked botton fly Silver Tab when they were available. The zipper fly ones are okay. I wish they'd make button fly ones again.

    I'm 58 years old. I've worn Levi's my whole life. Usually get 4 pair about every 2 years. Always compare new ones to last batch. This time the quality took a big dive. Too many things to list but main ones are single stitch on inside seam, short hem at bottom, thin material, poor quality stitching, buttons let fly "pooch", shrunk beyond belief. I lived around Roswell, NM when they moved the Levi's plant out of U.S. Worst mistake ever. Over the years the quality has continually gotten worse to the point now I am going to another brand. I've had a couple of pair of Key Brand jeans and because of this batch (of Levi's) I bought another pair (of KEY Jeans). Ten times the quality for half the price and fit like the old Levi's used to. I hear nothing but good about the USA made Levi's but refuse to pay that exorborant amount. I'M DONE WITH LEVI'S.

    Bought this recently and i was a little disappointed about the fit and workmanship. After washing the jeans felt very stiff, something I like, but the fit around the waist and around the hips was more than loose. Like someone mentioned in another review for many years the 501 becomes larger around the hips and waist but this one I bought is worst. Also the workmanship was a little sloppy considering there were loose threads especially inside the pockets interfering with my keys.

    I have long found that button fly jeans fit better and wear better than do zipper fly jeans. Even though they cost a little more, I find Levi 501's are well worth the additional cost in style, quality, and fit! Sheplers is the only place I've found that has black jeans available - all others seem to only have blue. Now if they only had white available in my size I'd be in heaven...

    I bought my first pair of 501’s I have purchased in more than 15 years. Very very disappointed. The material is not as heavy as it was then, the sewing was not that great. I don’t care for the lighter material at all, come to find out, the denim weight is 12oz! For this price, I can buy made in USA jeans that are 15oz. Pretty much like “real” 501’s use to be. The one positive is the fit, they did fit like I remember. But that’s just not enough to encourage me to buy another pair. I will go back to made in USA denims.

    I’ve worn Levi’s jeans for almost 50 years and they are not made the way they used to be made. Poor quality fabric and even though I buy the same size, one might fit fine, but the other may be too small or too big. I don’t know if it’s just poor judgement by corporate or whoever puts them together, they’re just not the quality product they once were. I still wear them, but it would be nice if they were made in the USA. I’d pay more for a better quality product. Bring them back to be made in the USA.

    I stopped buying the 501 STF a few years ago after changes to the style that I didn't care for. I decided to give them another try. It appears the denim is somewhat heavier than the last pairs I purchased a few years ago. This purchase seems much more like real raw denim. I was very satisfied with the quality and comfort of these jeans. As long as they maintain this level of quality, I will continue to buy them.

    I currently have four pairs of 501s in rotation. Each a different color. Shrink to fit is the best way to get jeans that fit exactly how you like them. The standard rigid indigo ones fade nicely as well. These are definitely the best intro to raw denim.

    The delivery time was excellent. Both pairs fit better than usual but one pair has a possible problem with the top main button at the waist. It's frayed around the button and doesn't look like it is going to hold up for long.

    It was made in Mexico, and 34x34 is too large Made in Egypt 34x34 fits correctly, and is the closest to the Made in the U.S.A. sizes, out of any current Manufacturing Plant. The tag was attached so one could not see made in Mexico. It was deceiving. Why are the sizes different from every Plant? There is a total lack of Quality Control. The sizes need to be standardized for every Factory!!!

    I ordered 2 pairs of the "Original" 501 jeans and was very disappointed. It is not the same heavy, almost bullet proof fabric anymore, like it used to be in the 70s. Also: the original yellow / brownish stitching has been replaced with blue stitching which is almost invisible on the blue jeans. What this company is selling now, is some cheap knock-off, not "Original" Levis anymore.

    The material makes these black jeans not as black as they once were - the weave seems to bring a cheapness to it. And they are stiffer than previous versions. Not sure I'd buy the black again.

    I've been buying Levi 501 Original Shrink-to-Fit since the early 60's when the patch on the back was real leather. This is the first time I've been disappointed. When I opened the packag, I knew something was wrong. The Levis were soft and not stiff and rigid like they normally are. And the material wasn't as thick. When I washed them, they did not shrink as they normally would. For my size, Levi 501 original shrink-to-fit usually shrink about one inch on the waist and about two inches on the length. I washed them three times at the hot setting with the same result. Either the wrong material was used in this batch of jeans or Levi's 501 shrink-to-fit no longer shrink as they used to. Very disappointed.

    There are no western stores in the low country i have been able to find, and none of the stores here carry 501 in my size, or western shirts with actual sizes and snaps, they are all generic sm,med, lg. with no sleve sizes. Thank God for sheplers.

    I’m 70 years old and I still wear the same size I did in high school. I wear these every day when I go to work I love them when there new dark and stiff and I love how they fade and soften up. I just feel like they are with out a doubt the true original classic jeans. Even after I’ve worn them out my family and friends want them. I just feel and look good when I wear original 501 STF!

    These do not shrink as the original cotton jeans and the tag on them states " waist shrinks 1in, inseam shrinks 3in. " not so Levi should remove those tags as this is not true!!! Now I have to find tailor to shorten these.

    I've ordered before and completely satisfied. However, this order, two of the belt loops were detached at the bottoms. Quality Control seems not what it used to be. I was told I could send them back, they would check, they would decide and they would replace if necessary. What about good old fashion Quality Control? Made in Mexico

    You have taken the hassel out of finding the right size and stye of 501. Going into a store (even yours) is too difficult to figure out the location of the jeans, how the sizes are arranged, and whether you have the right size.

    I decided to give the "shrink to fit" another try after years of buying prewashed Levis. I'm glad I did. They have a great fit after the original wash and I really like how they feel. They are super comfortable.

    I have been wearing 501 shrink to fit for 40 years and find the shrinkage is not as consistent as in the past. In particular the length shrinkage seems to have increased, I use to by 34 length and now buy 36 length for the same fit. The weight of the cotton fabric seems to be less also. They still last but for work pants are getting to expensive.

    Been wearing same style, same color (ok different size) since I was a pre-teen. This latest batch, although Levi’s Brand just isn’t the same. The material is thinner, the hardware (including button fly) is less robust…eroding quality of product. Although Levi’s offers original authentic (vintage) denim material ($150- thanx) I’d buy them- but not offered in my size (waist or length). Until going naked becomes an option, sadly, I guess there’s no other choice...

    I received two Original button-fly shrink-to-fit pairs today and just have begun my shrink-to-fit process so I can't really review them specifically...but, having worn 501's since 1955, I am VERY confident that I will be highly satisfied. Yeah, I know the jeans have changed pretty dramatically over the past 64 years, but if they made them the way they were made in 1955 I couldn't afford them. And, frankly, I don't miss the denim that was so heavy it was like wearing jeans made of asphalt roofing shingles. They're still the best jeans going, in my very experienced opinion.

    This is the third pair of shrink to fits i have and every time since the first time the quality has gotten worse. The weight of the jeans has gotten considerably lighter and the rigidness of the jeans definitely has changed. Returned and got my money back. Sad to see such an iconic American denim brand get to this point.

    My mum and dad always went on about 501 Shrink-to-Fit. I myself have been wearing them since 1996 as they seem to be just about the best fit for me. However, these don't seem to be the jeans from the 1960's, or even the late 1990's/ early 2000s. Actually, I've really noticed a demise in quality over the last ten years. The actual fabric is not as thick or hard wearing as it was. I could count on a pair taking at least 4 months of wash and wear before becoming really comfortable. I'd buy them close to winter so that they would be thicker and warmer through the cold months and by summer the fabric was a bit more worn and cooler. Not the case anymore. A couple of washes and they feel like older pairs I've had for years. The amount of belt loops have also been reduced. Granted, I went from 38s to 36s but it appears that the loops have been re-positioned and reduced to one at the very back instead of two. It's a minor annoyance, but the old arrangement was better for my keys and ID tag at work. I'm not surprised though. Everyone seems to be "shrinking" their products without cutting the price: my teabags have less tea in them, certain chocolate bars have bigger gaps between the sections, the list goes on. I can guess that quite a bit of money can be saved by reducing the number of belt loops. I guess corporations missed out on the whole "money isn't everything" lecture we got as kids, eh? So, to sum up, I like them, I'll probably keep buying them (which is why this is probably just a pointless rant), but they aren't what they used to be.

    I ordered 3 pair of 5 button shrink to fit 501s one pair only had 4 buttons and matching holes, leaving a breezy space

    This is my second purchase in a couple of months. My hubby has always worn LEVI's shrink to fit; have bought in retail places before, but sometimes they aren't up to the specs, or don't shrink properly.

    [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought 2 sizes up in both waist & length. 3 washes got them fitting nicely through the waist & length. Crotch & seat did not shrink as much as the rest of the jeans and still look a little too baggy. Denim feels nice & sturdy. Will see how the raw denim breaks in. Next time I will order true to size in waist.

    even though these are nice looking jeans -and seem to fit ok - they are not really like the originals-- it seems the quality of the denim has gone way down -- these 501s i bought are thinner / lighter denim so sad - also I think most people will find they need to wash them more than 1 time every 10 wears ?? ______ are tougher denim ??? what happened waterless ???? quality less !!!!

    501 shrink to fit rigid are my jeans, period. They start off dark blue and fit for high class stuff, and then fade into casual cowboy cool. Thick denim means they last, and perfect fit means your butt looks great. #WIN501 #SweepstakesEntry

    I bought my 501's direct from Levi went through the recommendations about sizing and washing instructions and everything went well for me. Didn't dare to throw in the dryer and really glad I didn't! I'm nearly 60 and remember buying these back in the early 60's and yeah there are slight changes from then but I'm a happy camper....comfortable, look good. Seriously you folks out there always whining about how it use to be and how everything now stinks need to get over that adapt and understand things are always going to change! Why stress YOURSELF out!

    I have worn the original shrink to fit 501s for many years. They hold up well and wear great. Now I have to buy them when they are on sale, but I still do, and will.

    Been wearing 501 STF jeans for 50 years, however I recently bought a few pair of 501 STF's and the rear pockets seamed to be position lower, and 1/3 larger in size. Is that the norm from now on? My jeans that are 10 years old, 5 years old, and 3 years old are comparatively the same. But my new 501's match except the pocket size.

    Not sure what has happened to Levi quality. I just purchased a pair of shrink to fit 501's. Washed them in cold water before wearing them and noticed that they are miscolored

    I wrote earlier on here that I was disappointed in the quality. True, the quality of shrink-to-fits is not what it was 45 years ago, but they are still very good. Also, three buttons on the fly -- I complained, but then checked a pair of Levi's I bought 20 years ago 29 waist 36 length, and they had three buttons; it goes up to 4 buttons when the waist size goes up to 30. One thing -- what is this hornswaggle about wearing them in the bathtub?? I guess some folks just like to make life complicated for fun. I'm a gal, born and raised in California. I've been wearing shrink-to-fits as my main pants for 46 years and have often been asked by women who want to know how I get them to "look" that way. Huh??? I just wash them in the hottest washing machine I can get, dry them, and then ... wear 'em. I even had a lady say she'd pay $250 for a pair of "stone-washed jeans" like an ancient pair of my ol' shrink-to-fits. One request -- Levi's, please restore the size of 29-36 in the shrink-to-fits for us longer-legged types. The longest, 29-34s, are way too short to wear with western boots.

    The current 501s are OK, but not nearly as hardy as the 70's, 80's versions. They are currently comfortable and of good quality, but it would be great to have a very thick, work ready version of the 501s that the brand was built upon.

    Original 501 in black is a well made jean - good stitching, seams, fit after wash. They carry that Levis reputation I look for in a durable pair of jeans.

    I bought these in the same size I have bought other 501s and they shrank down so much that I can barely wear them. They shrank to at least one 1 smaller in the waist and in the leg. I washed them in cold water and have never put them in the dryer. Per comments from Levis on other reviews, I've worn them for at least 10 wears between washings, but they remain too small. I recommend ordering at least one inch larger in the waist and length if you purchase these jeans.

    I'm very happy with these 501's. It has been at least 20 years since I have worn original 501 jeans, but it was like an "old friend". I followed the shrinking in procedure as I always did in the past and they fit just perfectly. Very comfortable and unlike the fit of any other jeans nowadays. Very happy with getting these and I will get another pair soon.
