No to narrow and flat footed

They are a good solid boot. with the exception of I ordered a wide boot and they are still narrow on my feet. With that there is no ankle support or arch support. Since they run narrow there is no room to put any inserts in to compensate for no arch. Hiking in them is difficult especially in steep terrain and cause some feet issues.

Not worth it

I had these boots for just over a year and firstly I noticed how many laces I went through, I ripped through too many pairs of laces which I guess I can expect from any boot but I went though more waxed laces than I care to count. I kept getting my eyelets caught on my nomex pants which eventually broke all the eyelets around my ankles where I need the most support. Lastly my soles ripped in half so after a 14 day stint I spent my r&r day getting new boots that I was willing to break in over using these boots again. Pretty comfortable on the feet but that's about it. My suggestion is spend a little extra for White's or Nick's because I know I'll get a few seasons out of those

Danner makes good hiking and work boots. Wildland Firefighting? Not so much. They do the job just fine, and they’re very comfortable, but they fail to provide the durability and lifespan you would expect/desire and that other Wildland fire boot brands provide. This is my 3rd pair, each one lasts a year, 2 if you’re lucky.

Didn’t even last 100 days (made it like a season and a half) and the warranty is no longer good… bummer cause i did like them… but for the price definitely wish they held up longer.. might try and get them fixed up but might be a better idea to just get whites

Great boot, no break in time. Only negative thing is they do not last. If you are hiking and fighting fires in these on a regular basis, they will not last more than 4-6 months. Wish Danner could find some better material with the same comfort.

I normally wear size 9 1/2 or 10. I tried on these boots in the store and finally settled on an 11. Size 10 in these were way too small. Other than that I love these boots. I always have problems breaking-in all leather boots but these were very comfortable right out of the box.

Danner Full Leather Wildland Tactical 8" Boots

Sep 12, 2022
Received my Danner Wildland Tactical Firefighter 8" full leather boots. I have had Danner Acadia boots in the past (still have them 26 years old) so i had a good idea that these boots would be of the same quality as my old Acadia boots. Well i was pleasantly surprised that the quality, workmanship and comfort strait out the box was better than what i was expecting. superb quality boot. highly recommend these boots, with exceptional comfort from the first time you put them on. I am usually a size us 10.5 but in these boots i'm a size us 11. Shopping through Sheplers for these boots was effortless and a great experience. The shipping to Australia was fast and the boot was well packaged.

Quick and dirty... They were comfortable but cannot keep up with the daily grind of the job.
I am on a Hotshot crew in R4 and was looking for an alternative to my JK's. My first day of work was April 27, 2020. As of July 28, I have completely worn through the sole of the boot. For crew guys, if you are looking at these to save money, you won't because you'll have to buy a few pairs. If you are looking at them because you're tired of loggers, then they are a decent option. It just sucks no one can build a viable alternative boot for us.

They are great for working in the field. I had to order a men’s size 6 to find any good fire boots that met the requirements for wildland firefighters in my district. They are great for rough and steep terrain. The comfort level was significantly better than other boots I had tried on.

Decided to give Danner a try. Was wearing them doing yard work to break them in. Got a fire, short 4 hour gig, they were great!! Waded through a small creek several times without getting feet wet. Thought they may get hot with the thick liner but didn't. Probably walked about 4-5 miles.

These are the Best wild land fire boots! I’m putting them to the test they keep my feet cool in hot spots. Easy to wash off the ash without my feet getting wet. They are like pillows on my feet. Have not gotten a single blister in miles of hiking and working in them. They are tough enough to put up with the abuse of fire ash and water. Worth every penny. Would suggest to anyone over many other options even though they are a bit on the high end of the price spectrum for boots out there. These are worth it. This is my 5th pair of danners foot wear. Great company and great product. Also I love how you make size 15s! Lots of boots do not come in my size.

Nov 21, 2022
After about 100 hours of wear, the leather just gave out out across the heel just above the embossed “Danner” logo exposing the liner. The faux p-cord laces lasted maybe 20 hours. The bulky lace hooks bend easily and tear pants. These boots should not be labeled for wildland firefighting and they’re a serious drag on Danner’s brand. DO NOT BUY THESE BOOTS FOR WILDLAND FIREFIGHTING. If there were an option for no stars, these boots would qualify.

Overall fit and comfort was good. And the construction seemed to be up to usual Danner standard, however three of the rivets that hold the lace eyelets on were cracked. One on one boot and two on the other. I returned the boots, with no issue and received a refund. I’m writing this review, because I have long been a supporter of Danner boots and I am disappointed to see that this kind of error could occur and make it through quality control. I believe those rivets would have held for awhile, and then failed me when I needed them most. I don’t spare much chance when it comes to my gear, so unfortunately this left me with a bad taste and I had to look to another manufacturer.

Apr 28, 2021
Comfortable, easy to break in. However, didn't last more than one fire season. Heel leather detached along one side of heel, large hole all the way through leather on interior side of boot, lining detached from leather interior on both boots, and tread on sole almost completely worn off. Totally unwearable after one active fire season.

The boot provide very good ankle support while walking delivering mail/packages for USPS as a City Carrier PTF. Since they are a wild land fire fighter boot the soles only last about 8 months while walking on paved streets and cement. The boots are sized well so I can comfortably wear heavier work socks.

I want to love these boots, but two failed pairs show significant flaws.

Sep 22, 2023
I purchased my first pair during the 2022 fire season and jumped a fire with them a few days after receiving them. Within the second working shift, the stitching above the vibram heel began to unbind and quickly separated. I brought them into a Danner location in Oregon and described my issue. They swapped out the boot for me. My very next fire was in some rough terrain (Rogue-Siskiyou NF) where the brush was thick but the ground was soft, and, within a handful of shifts, the vibram sole began to separate and crack in large chunks. Both of these issues occurred within the first few fire shifts I worked after first wearing the boots. Though the customer support from Danner has been helpful and supportive, these boots have demonstrated their inability to hold up in what would be considered as normal fireline conditions.

Ended up sending these boots back after wearing them around the house. They are tight in the toes and loose in the heel. They also are very warm. Just wearing them inside made my feet sweat in minutes, so you can imagine how they'd feel on the fireline.

Great fit. Comfortable to wear
Blaine G.
Aug 20, 2023
Great fit. Comfortable to wear all day. I did have to order 1/2 size up because my size was short due to the round toe. Return was simple and professionally handled. One thing I would like to see changed is speed lace eyes instead of the hooks because the hooks hang on things other than just the laces, and the speed eyelets are just faster and easier.

These boots fell apart after
Jacob R.
Aug 26, 2024
These boots fell apart after my first assignment. The insoles and midsole got holes in the heels almost immediately - leaving my feet blistered at the heel; the outsoles come apart at the ends so I’m losing traction easier and grabbing random plant matter as I hike along. They’re pretty wide so if you’re on any slope, your foot will slide around inside the boot so make sure you either double sock or wear extra thick socks. The eyelets lose integrity and get pulled outward quickly so sometimes my boot laces will come apart and I have to press the eyelets back down with my multitool pliers. I would not recommend these if you’re on a hand crew, but even if you’re on an engine, these boots get unusually hot even for fire boots.

Robust and well built upper, thicker than I expected with the fire insulation, but not outrageous after some break in. Price is comparable with other similar boots, but these are higher quality. The rough leather finish looks really good as well.

Mar 26, 2020
The boots are true to size and lightweight, break in period was zero. I have had 2 pair of these boots sna have found that just aren't built to last. After 1 season in my second pair the arch support broke and the cloth on the inside of the boot covering the plastic heel. The treat on the boot is not that aggressive and you can find yourself sliding pretty easy going up or downhill. I taste three stars cause the boot does protect your foot pretty well, I did not get hot foot, and my feet didnt blister.

Victor C.
Jul 3, 2023
I've worn a 7.5EE for . . . I'm not sure, honestly, but a very long time. Most companies do not offer shoes in my size, so I was pleased to see that Danner does. Unfortunately, their customer service was not able to provide last information when I called. When I ordered the boot in my typical size, it was both too narrow and too short. I exchanged for half a size up, but the boot was still way too narrow, even though it was labeled as an 8EE. I tried the Modern Firefighter boot in an 8EE and it is just slightly wider, but still not actually extra wide. I think Danner seriously needs to re-label their sizes. Again, this isn't a case of "some shoes fit differently;" This is a case of absolute taco-foot that I don't even get on regular widths from other shoe makers. Besides the false labeling/advertising of a product they don't actually offer, the shipping and returns process was quick and easy, which is nice, because it at least let me try the boots with minimal financial risk to myself. It would just be nice if they labeled their sizes correctly or actually started offering wide sizes.

Made the switch to a "hiker" style boot and couldn't be happier with the Danner Wildland Fire boot. Firm sole, good ankle support, ample room in the toe box, and the heel cup is snug. Size was pretty spot on, allowing just a bit of room for foot swell. Solid construction throughout the boot. Will recommend to everyone.

Sole is trashed after half of a fire season. Stitching on the heel failed and the upper has separated from the lower, I can see my sock through the boot, not safe for being on the line with burning material to easily get inside and burn me. I've worn them six month's and already not usable. Never again, and of course I purchased them over a year ago so no warranty.

Great Alternative to Traditional Fireboot
brian l.
Feb 28, 2023
I did two fire seasons with over 700 hours of overtime in one pair. About to buy the exact same boot. They don't hold up quite as well as the thicker leather that you might get with a White or Nick boot but they are way more comfortable and that flatter sole provides more stability for me personally. Their lightness and comfort what you get in trading off some durability. I had to have a local boot store sew some leather patches in heel where the stitching blew out on both boots but it was a cheap fix. Danner might have done it but I needed it done quickly to get back to work.

The best wildland firefighter boot!
1) very comfortable out of the box & completely broken in after 24 hours of hard use! 2) felt zero heat in hot ash. 3) waterproof. 4) feet stay secure when hiking up/down slope & no hot spots on feet. 5) fit is true to size. 6) light weight
