Something Blue, Something Borrowed, Something New and Something Strappy and Shiny…

The wedding bug seems to be going around because it seems like everybody is getting married or getting engaged. It’s a little too late for a June wedding but it’s never too late to have the perfect wedding. If you have been bitten by the bug or in the wedding party, there are some crucial decisions that need to be made.

Now shoes are always important, especially when you see that perfect pair of heels that are way out of your budget. To some women, shoes may even be a religion, an out of body experience that compels you to spend next month’s rent on the perfect shoes. But on your wedding day, shoes are especially important. They go above and beyond footwear, and become the very apparatus that will walk you down that very important aisle, literally. Now of course your father will be guiding you and your legs may have something to do with the actual walking part of it but it’s the shoes that will magically lead you to that very important moment. The shinier and prettier they are, the better the walk will be, just kidding. No, seriously.

To some women, I’ll even go as far as to say that the shoes may even be as important as the dress. These women have probably already decided that Jimmy or Manolo will be escorting them down the aisle. Father’s across America have probably already been hoodwinked into buying their little girls Jimmy Choos for their wedding day without a clue as to who this Jimmy person is and how much it’s going to cost them. That’s how important and powerful shoes can be, especially if they’re encrusted with diamonds or covered with swarovski crystals and have the most delicate little straps and the heel is, oh sorry, concentrate…shoes.

I bet you didn’t know that Boot Barn had wedding shoes, did ya? If you want the classic styling of the West, these boots are perfect for you. Whether you’re in the wedding party or a guest, these boots will transport you back to the old frontier. And with these shoes, dads have nothing to worry about. And for anyone out there who is aware of who Jimmy is and the cost, remember, what fathers don’t know, won’t hurt their daughters.

Just When You Thought It Was Over……

card.jpg

Just when you thought you were done shopping, another holiday rears its ugly little face. You know what I’m talking about. And if you don’t, I’m referring to the incessant stream of holidays that requires you to buy a gift. It seems like it’s always someone’s birthday or anniversary or mother’s day and in this case, Father’s Day is right around the corner. When does it end? Never because it’s a vicious cycle that goes on and on.

No sooner did we just celebrate Mother’s Day and now it’s time for Father’s Day. And this is only if you’re lucky enough to not have some jacka@% friend or relative have a birthday in the interim. God help you if your anniversary falls between M-Day and F-Day. And as if there weren’t enough gift-giving occasions, these gifts seem to get more expensive every year. Haven’t you ever thought to yourself, “Well last year I spent x amount of dollars so this year I should spend x+y amount of dollars.”

Who created this never ending stream of mandatory purchases? It’s total doggy doo doo, that’s what it is. But what choice do we have? The alternative would be to show up to a birthday party without a gift. You’re probably thinking to yourself, “That’s no big deal, my friends and family love me. They don’t care whether I bring a gift or not, I’m here and that’s all that matters!” So with that thought in mind, once again, you show up to another party without a gift, only this time it’s your parent’s anniversary party instead of some insignificant cousin’s birthday. Now you’ve done it. You don’t know this yet but you’re official title now is cheapo and the person who doesn’t bring gifts and your friends and family are now secretly talking about you behind your back. And chances are, the invites are going to stop coming and the only way you’re invited to a party now is if some family member accidentally leaks it out at a family gathering. Now is this any way to live? Who wants to be an outcast with friends and family? That MIGHT be worse than the continual poverty.

So what hope is there? Shoes, that’s right, shoes. I don’t know a single man or woman who isn’t constantly in need of more gosh darn shoes and fortunately, at Bootbarn.com, shoes aren’t all that expensive. So remember, the next time it’s someone’s birthday and you think to yourself, “Oh crap, I have to buy, I mean, Oh yay! I want to buy a gift for so and so,” just go to Bootbarn.com for all your shoe needs. And in case you weren’t paying attention, remember, we have way more than just cowboy boots!

Mother’s Day – How Much Do You Love Your Mom?

pic1-card2.jpg

Mother’s Day is exactly 9 days away, which doesn’t leave much time to get the perfect present. But is there really the perfect present? If I was a millionaire, sure, but I’m not so the quest for the perfect present continues.

What are you getting your moms for Mother’s Day this year? Another generic card from Hallmark? I guess everybody needs more empty words on a card that will only be tossed into the trash. How about a box of chocolates that only serves as a constant reminder of the diet roller coaster your mom’s been on since having you? Every mom loves flowers, right? Right, until they start wilting and remind your mom of another year of her life that’s wilted away. Are you taking your moms out to a nice dinner? HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A RESTAURANT ON MOTHER’S DAY? It’s one of the busiest days of the year and you’ll probably only receive mediocre service, if that. I’m sure she’d enjoy a night on the town with every other mom on the face of the planet. Come on people! We owe our moms more than just empty sentiments, dying flowers, fattening chocolates, crammed restaurants and bad service. Our moms deserve more than this! And if any of these ideas were even remotely appealing to anyone, then you need to stop reading, go to the supermarket, buy a watermelon and try to fit it in your mouth. Then, when you realize how hard that is, maybe, just maybe, you’ll agree to put a little bit more effort into celebrating the woman who brought you into this world.

And then there’s always jewelry. One can never really go wrong with jewelry, right? Nope, there’s nothing wrong with jewelry except the beating it puts on your wallet a mere 35 days before Father’s Day rolls around to give it another beating. And this is only if you’re lucky enough not to have a loved one’s birthday or some special occasion in the mean time. Who created this never-ending stream of mandatory purchases? Well, that’s a whole other blog topic.

So what’s left? What’s the silver lining in this gift giving madness? Shoes. That’s right, shoes. It’s the perfect present because I don’t know a single woman that wouldn’t love a pair of shoes for a gift and at Bootbarn.com, they’re not that expensive. And there’s not a single woman who isn’t constantly in need of more shoes because, frankly, there is no such thing as too many shoes. How many pairs of black shoes does a woman need? 46….1 pair of black stilettos, 1 pair of black sling backs, 1 pair of black wedges, 1 pair of black mary janes, 1 pair of black boots, 1 pair of…...well you get the picture. And how many pairs of western boots do you need? Most people would probably say 1 or 2 pairs but in a perfect world, everybody would have 20-30 pairs of boots. So this Mother’s Day, help your moms get a little closer to the perfect world and help her expand her shoe collection. And if your mom is practical like most people, and owns a pair of basic black or brown pair of boots, then it’s time to spice up her feet with a pair of eye catching red or turquoise boots.

pic2-choc.jpg

I know what some of you are thinking, “My mom doesn’t really wear western boots.” Well unless you completely disregarded the last blog, you would know that Bootbarn.com is more than just western boots. We have something for every mom out there, including yours!

I don’t care what anyone says, no wardrobe is complete without a pair of cowboy boots. And if you already purchased flowers or chocolates, then I guess your mom will be receiving two gifts this year; flowers and a pair of shoes.

The History of Valentine’s Day

Contrary to popular belief, Valentine’s Day is not a holiday that was schemed up by Hallmark. The history of it all is actually quite romantic….

One legend goes back to the year 270 A.D. when Roman Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men in efforts to create better soldiers. Claudius assumed that men who weren’t emotionally attached made better soldiers than married men. Disagreeing with this law, a priest named Valentine, defied the emperor’s order and continued to secretly marry couples. After being discovered, Valentine was ordered to be executed. During his time in prison, he was visited by his jailor’s daughter and just before his execution, he wrote this woman a letter and signed it “From Your Valentine.”

Now, Valentine’s Day has certainly evolved over the times and with the help of society, big name card companies, commercialization, and last but not least; women, it has developed into what we know today……hearts, cards, chocolates, flowers, jewelry, and dinner. So on this whimsical holiday, you can find yourself celebrating one of two appealing holidays:

Single’s appreciation day is just around the corner. So what does that mean for single people out there? It means spending no money, no pressures of planning the perfect date, no confusion as to what gift to get your date or how extravagant the gift should be, no stress over buying a card or making one, no stress over writing your perfect sentiments in the card, not having to make dinner reservations one month in advance, not having to plan a weekend getaway, and ultimately, having a lot more money in your wallet.

Now, for all you couples out there, Valentine’s Day is also just around the corner. So do you know what that means for you? It means spending more money, a romantic evening with your sweetheart, the stress- I mean thrill of planning a fabulous night one month prior to the 14th, buying and receiving the perfect present, picking out the perfect card, expressing your love in words, dining at a crowded-but fancy, restaurant, going on a romantic weekend getaway, and ultimately, fewer bills in the wallet.

I know, I know…. both of these groups sound so tempting, it’s hard to choose. There may be Valentine’s Day cynics out there that think, ‘Valentine’s Day is completely arbitrary and contrived. I mean, who needs a random day in February to show their husbands or wives, girlfriends or boyfriends, that they love them.’ There may also be people out there that think, ‘who wants to be alone….I’d take a fake holiday over being single any day.’ Well, I guess we know which group they would choose.

Whatever the situation is, whoever you are, whatever group you’re in; whether you’re depressed or happy, feasting on lobster at a restaurant or feasting on pizza on your couch, whether you’re spending that day in misery or in love, in company or in solitude, remember, don’t take it so seriously! It’s supposed to be fun. It’s a whimsical holiday to be enjoyed by all, couple or not. If you’re single, who cares! Treat yourself! And if you’re in a relationship, who cares! The fate of your relationship does not ride on that one day! So everybody just have fun and let there be chocolate…. and shoes!

For the men out there who are stuck on what to get your Valentine, remember, as much as they love you, women have been having a love affair with shoes for a very long time now; don’t try to understand it. Whether you buy a pair of Jimmy Choos or Ariats, you can’t go wrong with shoes. Bootbarn.com has a great new selection of boots that anyone would love!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so don’t be caught empty handed on that special occasion. With the simple click of a mouse, you can have beautiful boots sent right to your doorstep. Seeing how Valentine’s Day is actually a legitimate holiday, don’t we all owe it to Saint Valentine to show our loved ones just how much we love them? And for the singles out there, with a great new pair of shoes, who needs a man? Or a woman?

Christmas Is Over, Now What?

Every morning I wake up expecting a pile of presents waiting for me under the tree, only to be disappointed and wondering what happened and where did Christmas go? Is it over already? Now, looking back on Christmas morning, a thought occurred to me and it poses an interesting situation….

It’s approximately 8 o’clock in the morning on Christmas Day and my sister and I are the only ones awake, getting ready to make breakfast. Slowly, we hear voices upstairs and in anticipation of opening presents, we run upstairs to get everybody out of bed. As we’re running up the stairs, my boyfriend opens the door, looking like he fell out of bed, doesn’t say a word and sticks one finger in the air to silence us. He walks right past us down the stairs, lies down directly in front of the tree, and gathers three presents in his arms, ready to tear into them. Now luckily for him, he got everything he wanted for Christmas. But can you imagine the trauma that could have ensued if he hadn’t gotten what he had asked Santa for? And all that built up anticipation had gone to waste? I certainly wouldn’t want to cause that kind of trauma for anybody or be a witness to it.

Now, on Christmas morning, there are exactly three kinds of people. The ones that got exactly what they wanted for Christmas, the ones that got some of the things they wanted, and the ones that got completely screwed by Santa (no pun intended). For the last group of people out there, I can only imagine how you’re feeling because I got everything I wanted, and then some, and things I didn’t even know I wanted. But happy as I am over all of my presents, I empathize with all of you and offer some advice. I understand that in a perfect world, Christmas is about giving and not about receiving. But we don’t live in a perfect world because if we did, I’d be 5’8 and a size 2. So, as much as Christmas is about buying presents for other people, it’s also about getting what you want too. And do you want to know how to ensure that you do? Buy it for yourself! Sure, why can’t you give yourself a present for Christmas and who knows yourself better than you do. What better way to make sure that you get exactly what you want?

So remember next year when you’re in the shopping malls and you’re pushing your way through the crowds that it’s your holiday too. If your sister is worth waiting a half hour in line for, then you are certainly worth whatever purchase you make for yourself, guilt free. Whether you have to put your own name on your shopping list or if you have to shave a few dollars off of everybody else’s gift, I’m sure you’ll find a way to treat yourself. You can even buy the gift, wrap it before anybody else sees it, and write your name on the tag from Santa on it and no one would be the wiser. Now, my advice is in no way indicative of my actions this Christmas, but I may have to heed my own advice next year and buy myself something pretty. Why not? It’s my Christmas too!

So now you never have to be in group number 3 anymore because the power is in your own hands. If you wanted Tivo but got a VCR, buy it yourself! If you wanted a food processor but got a knife instead, go out and buy it yourself! If you wanted a new DVD player but got more DVD’s instead, just buy it yourself! And if you wanted cowboy boots but got house slippers instead, go to www.bootbarn.com and buy it yourself! If you’re looking for that great after Christmas sale, look no further. Bootbarn.com has great prices on selected boots from some of the top brands and you never know, we may just have your perfect gift to yourself. Go ahead, you’re worth it!

Perfect Fall Boots!

Summer is over and everybody dreads the looming approach of a gloomy fall and winter season. The downside is that it gets colder, it gets darker earlier, it rains, and did I mention it gets colder? However, the upside of the approaching seasons is that now you can wear layer upon layer, accessorize with scarves and hats, and wear those perfect boots you have stored in your closets.

So, I bet everybody has the perfect outfits pictured in their minds along with the perfect boots, but there’s a problem. Being the trend setters that you are, you realize that the fashion must have right now, the hot ticket items in footwear are none other than chic, western-inspired cowboy boots. So what’s the dilemma? Three problems present themselves. The first problem is that those great boots sitting in your closet right now in no way resemble any kind of western boot, unless somehow, cowboys are now wearing stiletto heels. The second problem is a little more difficult. As hot as western boots are right now, quite frankly, you wouldn’t be caught dead in cowboy boots, trend setter or not!! And the third problem? With the approaching holidays, you simply can’t afford to buy a new pair of boots. So what do you do now? Do you wear those boots in your closet, fashion faux-pa as they are, and risk becoming a fashion don’t that no one turns to for fashion advice anymore? Do you just suck it up, ignore your gut instincts and sport those cowboy boots to stay ahead of the fashion game? And do you break your wallet so your feet can look great?

For those out there who are faced with problem #1, the solution is easy. Buy yourself a brand new pair of western boots. In case you haven’t noticed, cowboy boots now come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, including stiletto heels. If you don’t believe me, then just take a gander in all those fashion magazines out there. There’s a style for everyone, cowboy/cowgirl or not. With all these great new styles, why would you risk becoming a fashion don’t by wearing last season boots?

blog-pic1.jpg

For those who are facing problem #2, the solution is not so easy. Why? Because for as long as you’ve been playing this fashion game, you’ve been living with this predetermined notion that cowboy boots are lame and they’re just not you. Well, guess what? You’re wrong! Cowboy boots are in fact, not lame! They’re one of the hottest footwear trends out there; they were in the past, they are right now, and they will be again in the future. Today’s cowboy boots have morphed themselves into sleek little numbers that are ready for the barn, the rodeo, the runway or the social event of the year. And about that predetermined notion of yours? Well just get rid of it. If Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, and Lindsay Lohan can pull them off, then so can you! Throw caution to the wind and have fun with fashion.

blogpic5.jpg

And for everybody facing problem # 3, I sympathize. With the constant changes in fashion, who has the time or money to keep up? Boot Barn does. When it comes to the latest in western wear, Bootbarn.com is continuously adding new styles to their site. And, with everyday low prices, you don’t have to break the bank to be fashionable. Shoes are no longer just a girl’s best friend; they’re everybody’s best friend.

New Justin Vintage Boots!

Over 125 years ago, a man named H.J. Justin moved his family to Texas to start a new life as a boot maker. His first customers were cowboys on their way to the Chisholm Trail. Since their origins, Justin boots has been the standard of the West since 1879. They’ve been known for making quality, durable boots that are both comfortable and stylish while still retaining the time-honored tradition of cowboy boots. H.J. Justin was a man dedicated to his craft, and that dedication still holds true today. His principles on boot making still remain; “no boot shall ever bear the Justin brand unless it is the very best that can be produced.” Today, Justin’s boot making expertise has made them famous world wide and for good reason. It was H.J. Justin’s wish that he leave behind “an institution which will uphold the standards and spirit of the true West.” I’d say that his wish came true.

Justin’s latest line of Vintage cowboy boots are truly made for walking. They’re perfect for completing any outfit, anytime of the year. Trend or not, Justin Boots can survive any fashion fad. They’ve been around over 125 years and they’ll continue to be around well into the future.

You can count on Justin for great Western, Casual & Original Work Boots. To find the true great western heritage of Justin boot making, look no further. Click here to view our selection of Justin Boots.

Lucchese Exclusive Series

luexclusive.jpg

Lucchese started in 2004 with a new line called the exclusive series. These are usually part of the "1883" collection of handcrafted styles. The difference is that with these "exclusive styles" Lucchese makes a limited production run. Each style comes out for only a 2-3 month period, is produced usually less than 100 pairs per size and provided to a very limited amount of retail stores. Needless to say, once the style is gone, it is gone. If you're one of the lucky ones to grab a pair, rest assured, chances are you'll be one of only a very few worldwide.

This year Boot Barn is happy to become on of Lucchese exclusive retailers. We are one of the only online providers of Lucchese exclusive line. To view our latest selection you can visit us by clicking here.

Some months you might go wow! Other months you might pass. But overall, these styles blend the vintage western design and patterns with Lucchese's careful craftmanship that takes over 260 individual steps to produce each boot! Generally referred to as the Cadalliac of western boots down in El Paso, these exclusive styles provide the proof. For instance, the exclusive pattern this month is the "shooting stars" series for women. This style combines an artistic blend of black soft leather with a python snake tip. Certainly unique!

Boot Barn joined the exclusive program because of the extreme quality and western tradition these boots provide. But, we are largely joining the program because our customers have voiced their concern that they would like to see more Lucchese products on our online store.

Do you have a comment about Lucchese? We'd like to hear from you.
