The Legacy of Justin Boots

We’re happy to make one of our first entries about Justin Boot Company. Besides being one of the standards for western boots, Justin Boots has one of the biggest and most varied western fashions and styles to choose from to fit your boot needs.

Starting in 1879, the Justin Boot Company just celebrated its 125th year anniversary. Obviously the world has seen quite a few changes in this span.

What were the current affairs in 1879?

Wyatt Earp moves to Tombstone
Albert Einstein is born
Thomas Edison invents the light bulb
First White House Easter egg roll takes place
First intercity telephone system
Will Rogers is born
The cash register is invented
Yellowstone National Park is established as the nation’s first national park
F.W. Woolworth opens his first store
U.S. Census records a population of 50 million
Ivory Soap is invented
Joseph Stalin is born
An internal combustion engine is developed for “horseless” carriages
Sherlock Holmes begins his career as a detective

Yet, here we are in the year 2005 and Justin is still crafting western boots in the same tradition since 1879. Western boot values still hold true. And, when you think about it, every time you put on a pair, you’re putting on the tradition of over a century. Whether you looking for a true cowboy boot, a riding boot, western work boot, casual footwear style or basic great leather footwear, Justin fits your feet.

We interviewed Kevin Kelley of Justin Boot Company, head quartered in Fort Worth, TX. Mr. Kelly has been representing Justin boots for many, many years.

What is the difference with Justin Boots?

“The HISTORY is (one major) difference between Justin and other brands. 126 years of consistent quality and (good) fit. Justin’s fit is a generous, comfortable fit for the majority of people. Other brands tend to have a fit that typically is less generous and takes some getting used to."

What are some of your current top sellers nationwide?

Our style 3133 black roper (a "wellington" style) that has been in the Justin line up for years. It was renamed "roper" in the mid 50's. It’s all quality leather, wide toe, low heel and makes for a very comfortable piece of footwear.

1409 black traditional cowboy boot is a medium round toe top quality leather boot. This boot has a comfortable long base heel that gives a lot of "area" to stand on. It also has an added J-Flex insole and a six row stitch pattern of silvers and blues that makes for an attractive boot. Check out style 2253 too for a great jeans boot.

Can you comment regarding Justin's boot sizing? I thought I had them figured out through trial and error, then I bought two pairs of the western style (as opposed to the ropers I usually wear) and both pairs are much too small. The ropers appear to run a half size larger and a letter width wider than other boots. But the pure cowboy/western ones seem narrower and shorter than any shoe or boot I've ever worn. I'v wasted a lot of money on trial and error fitting because there is not a dealer nearby. I hate waiting months for Champion to build them custom-fit, and the price becomes a bit steep also. Thanks.

Hi John,

Thank you for your comment. Regardless of boot brands, all Roper style boots are generally a little more forgiving in the foot area; this is just the normal make-up of the boot as is the traditional western boots are more narrow. You could try ordering the western boots in a wide size or one size larger than your normal size. Please email us at custserv@bootbarn.com if you have any other questions. Thank you for choosing Bootbarn.com
