Comments about Harley-Davidson Women's Darice Motorcycle Boots:

I took the risk of ordering these boots online, and had to return them for a smaller size. I was so excited when I received my order, but as soon as I took them out of the box, I knew they were going to be too big. I tried them on anyways.

When I had the larger pair in possession, my heels kept slipping out in both of the boots every time I would take a step. They were not comfortable to walk in at all -- it was like walking in large, heavy, clunky flip flops! Before returning them, I tried the recommendation of wearing them with thick socks. STILL, they didn't fit. My heels still slipped easily out of both boots even with the thickest pair of socks I own. Doubling the socks made no difference either -- plus, who wants to wear that many pairs of socks? Ironically, the larger size was a lot harder to get into than the smaller size. It was like putting on a pair of newly washed and shrunken jeans but for your feet. This was because it was extremely snug around the top arch of my foot, which I loved about the boots as they made my foot feel secure in that part; however, even with the snugness it did not solve the heel slipping problem. Sad day.

So I mailed off the larger pair, and waited anxiously for the smaller size to arrive. When they finally came, I was nervous. I've never purchased shoes from the Harley Davidson brand before, so I didn't know how big the jump in sizes were. Turns out, it's about average. I had to go from a 6.5 to a size 6 in these boots, and the smaller size fits better. Now I wouldn't say perfect... both boots have very minor heel slipping problems -- the right boot more than the left; however, had I gone a full size smaller, my toes would definitely be cramped. I tried the thick sock trick again, and that solved the problem. They fit perfectly with thick socks and stopped slipping.

I am disappointed though that the top arch of the boot wasn't nearly as snug as the previous pair. Even with the buckle on the tightest hole, it doesn't change much. Don't get me wrong, these boots still fit and feel secure enough to be walking around in all day, but knowing that they'll still break in as I wear them and stretch out over the years, this is just a bummer. Because of this, the smaller pair almost feel as though they had already been broken into by someone else even though they were brand new. I can also tell that the second pair of boots -- the one's I received for the exchange -- have been sitting in the warehouse for a while since the leather is a bit dry and nowhere near as supple and pristine as the first pair they sent me. However, a good leather cleaner and conditioner can solve that easily.

When comparing the first pair I received to the second, I also noticed how the shaft of the boots were slightly different. The larger pair's shaft was almost perfectly straight with no slouch -- a design quality I liked in the boot. The smaller pair I was sent had a slight slouchy look already built into the boot. I'm not sure if it's because the leather shrunk a bit as it dried out in the warehouse or not, but it's just a picky observation to take note of. The larger pair was also a much darker brown -- nearly black -- in comparison to the smaller pair which is an obvious shade of brown. However this is understandable as it is natural leather and variations like such exist.

I also noticed that these boots are made really weird. They were made in a way that makes your feet LOOK really long. I have small feet, and these boots make my feet look huge in comparison. They don't look bad, but they just make my feet look super long as many of the other reviewers have stated. It's like they lined the boot with some extra thick lining or something to make the interior much smaller in ratio to the outside; thus, causing this effect. Oh well. There is also a hard plastic toe guard and heel guard in the interior that matches the shape of the heel stitching on the outside of the boot. You can feel it, but I don't find to to be uncomfortable. I also don't have sensitive feet, so if you're the type of person that like shoes that feel like you're walking on clouds, keep that in mind. Otherwise, they are quite comfortable. No arch support, but that perfect for me since I have flatfeet anyways.

*It's important to note that I tried on the smaller pair after I had just woken up -- when my feet were at their smallest. So I'm sure they would fit perfectly after a days worth of walking. The description of when I tried on the larger pair was after trying on the boots at the end of the day -- when my feet were at their largest. Also, 95% of the shoes I own and wear are a 6.5, so I am pretty darn sure I'm a true 6.5; albeit, I have never had my foot measured. Just save yourself the extra return shipping cost and order a half size down. If it helps, I'm a 6.5 in Steve Madden's shoe brand and Target's Merona shoe brand.*

Overall, I do feel that they are of good quality and will last me years as long as I take care of them.
